Hi,

Can somebody prevent the Guest user from posting on this forum?

This should prevent the spam posts I keep deleting.

Cheers,
Stu :)

Stu,

Looks like we've been trying to delete the posts at the same time.

Other forums I belong to have had to stop guest postings for the same reason. There are are few thread here that I've had to lock in order to prevent spam on those posts.

I agree, we should stop guest postings.

Maybe you could add the image authentication that some sites now have for guest postings.

Hi,

To attempt to eliminate the SPAM, I've disabled Guest posts as suggested (thanks), and I've enabled the e-mail authentication requirement for new users. Hopefully this does the trick.

As for the previous errors with the forum regarding e-mail notifications, etc... this was due to a recent migration of our webhost, and it has still yet to be resolved on their end... major problems with PHP's mail functions. As a workaround, I've set phpBB to use SMTP for its e-mails. This seems to work according to my minimal tests, but please let me know if there are other errors.

Jim: You should now have access to the forum "Administration Panel," so please feel free to change any settings as you see fit. (Sorry for not enabling this earlier--I just recently figured out how to enable it!)

Cheers,
Damon

Cool. Thanks. I have to take some time to figure it out. I also notice that you've changed the "Top Poster" handle to "BCBJ Veteran."

Banned

Postby 2ffat » Thu Aug 24, 2006 9:42 am

Well, I just had to use the Admin Panel to ban a registered user. The user was posting porn site links. The format of the listing was the same that many of the "guests" used to list their spam/garbage. I suspect it is the same person or organization as the guest postings.
