Software Design/Deployment

Postby mmitton » Tue Apr 12, 2005 5:02 pm

Hi all,

I am quite a newbie when it comes to design and deployment issues, learning by the day. I recently completed/updated an application which acesses/modifies a local/networked paradox database, and generates reports on this data.

I am looking to design a similar application, but would like to make it more scalable and flexible.

I have had thoughts of developing a separate Front end, database server and report server. In this way each can be deployed on a separate machine and communicate via tcp/ip of course. Also this will allow local installations to deploy the front end and both servers on the same machine.

Can anyone give me some words of wisdom, or critic my deployment design?

Is this a perfectly viable way to deploy such a package, and are there any issues (performance or conflict) with running all 3 packages on a single machine?

Should I deploy the Database and Report module as one server?

Thank you.
